Lake Summer Swing, 6X8", original oil

About the Painting
Set up my easel on Kenilworth Lake this summer and painted this peaceful scene. The kids love to swing out over the lake, so on any hot day I can hear their laughter and joy. This morning was somewhat blustery, which moved the swing like a ghost was riding it and rippled the water.

• Oil painting on Canvas
• One of a kind artwork
• Size: 8 x 6 x 0.25 in (unframed) / 8 x 6 in (actual image size)
• This artwork is sold unframed
• Signed on the front
• Style: Impressionistic

More about the Artist
My artwork has been featured at TED (Technology, Education and Design) and has won ArtInPlace (Virginia), being featured along a major highway on a 12' X 24' aluminum panel where thousands of people enjoy it daily. Recently two of my pieces were awarded the cover and inside art for Wine and Country Living magazine, and were purchased for the publisher's collection. In 2015 one of my pieces was a finalist in the Gigliola Gamerini Award International Competition, and was exhibited in Florence, Italy. My work is in the collection of National Geographic, NBC, American Horse Publications, United States Dressage Federation, and many private collections internationally. The Lloyd Museum in Cincinnati and The William H. Benton Museum in Connecticut also have my work in their collections, with the Lloyd Museum having over 100 original pieces.

"Boat Dock 3" by Catherine Twomey at Auction!

This original plein air oil painting is on sale now! Please click HERE to bid.

oil by C. Twomey
"Boat Dock 3" by Catherine Twomey, 6 X 6" oil

What a day for a daydream. Boat on dock; it's there every day.

Background:

Art is my life. From the first art project I can remember (making a Christmas Nativity scene in grade school that overshadowed the resident artist) art has always been what brings me the greatest satisfaction. Without art, I am not who I am.

I am now working full time as a fine artist, a dream that I've pursued for as long as I remember. Landscapes engage and challenge me, and I have a very soft spot for animals.

My artwork has been featured at the world renowned TED (Technology, Education and Design) conference (TED MED in San Diego, on huge high definition screens throughout the exhibition center). I recently won the nationally acclaimed ArtInPlace competition in Virginia which placed a 12' X 24' mural on aluminum of my work, now seen by thousands of commuters daily.

Two museums currently house my art: The William H. Benton Museum in Connecticut, and The LLoyd Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was a great honor to be asked to exhibit and I continue to add to their collections. Speaking of collections, my work is a part of hundreds of private collections worldwide.

As a passionate defender of Artist's Rights, I have traveled to Washington, DC to meet with Senators and members of Congress as they debated the Orphan Works law (an attempt to "orphan" copyrighted artwork by separating the creator from their work) which we defeated. In addition, as a member of the American Society of Illustrator's Partnership, I continue to work to secure reprographic royalty streams from the ongoing publication of artist's works.

In the summer, the oaks look bigger then ever, and this one is just plain massive. It has the most interesting branches and patina.

"Summer Lake Swing" by C. Twomey

A new muse, painted at the lake on Tuesday with a strong wind and beautiful light. The swing blew around and I could imagine kids plunging into the water from it. Please click HERE to take part in the auction.

And here's the video I took of the scene as I painted. A gorgeous morning but I had to move fast as the clouds came up by lunchtime. Watch for the swing blowing in the wind towards the beginning:

I painted this from life about two weeks ago. It was a quiet, lovely day. A friend and I stood at the Biltmore Boat House, looking out over the pond and imagining how it looked and felt to the Vanderbilts. This little island jutted out into the pond just in front of me and I loved the tree and leaf patterns.

From the garden this spring. Painted live, these mountain laurels and rhododendrons were having a gala event of blues, pinks and greens. The painting is 6 X 8" on archival linen board, unframed.

"Sun Break Hill" Plein Air at Auction!

Sitting across from this hill, I loved the almost perfectly rounded crest that was sun lit in front of dark low-hanging clouds. What a gorgeous view! The trees glowed from the light. This painting is unframed and is 6 X 8" on archival linen board.

Early spring, my garden. The wild, glorious rhododendron plant by the front door. Rich, fluid, with a main flower reaching for the sun, others behind it doing the same. Plein Air Oil Painting, The Biltmore Estate

Oil painting by C. Twomey
Bass Pond (L) and the Biltmore Bridge by C. Twomey, ©2017

Had a fantastic time painting at the gorgeous Biltmore Estate in Asheville on Friday. Oh what a day! The wind was way up for the first painting of the bridge (on the right). I had to hang on to everything just to operate at all!

For the second painting, left, I hiked to the Boat House on Bass Pond. Here, I was sheltered from the wind and spent a good couple of hours quietly drawing, painting and talking to some lovely people who happened by.

Going to do a lot more of this! A peaceful, productive meditation in doing what makes one happy.

Sold! "Advance Mills Hay Bales" by C. Twomey

"Advance Mills Hay Bales" C. Twomey

Thank you to the collector of this painting, your interest is greatly appreciated! For additional information, please click HERE.

Along Advance Mills Road is an area of large hayfields, usually right next to the cattle the hay will feed. These fields look out onto the Blue Ridge Mountains, but this time what caught my eye were the bales themselves. The patterns of bright sun with contrasting shadows as the sun fell were stunning.

"Vermont Back Forty" Auction, C. Twomey

oil painting by Catherine Twomey
"Vermont Back Forty" by C. Twomey, 5 X 7" oil
Visit dailypaintworks.com to place a bid for this original art at a very affordable price.

I was in the Rochester, Vermont area in the fall of 2016, staying at my brother's house. We trekked cross country from Danville, CA and needed a respite. A respite it was, as I was able to paint outside in the peace and quiet, staring at this gorgeous view in the warmth of August and September. This oil is on archival linen board. It is 5 X 7", signed and varnished with care.

"A Mood of Good" Sold

original oil painting by Catherine Twomey
"A Mood of Good" C. Twomey, oil on linen board
Painted this outside recently. The Vermont trees are starting to turn, with the reds first and some oranges starting to appear. It's just stunning.

Saw a grey fox down the road today, happily eating apples in the road. There's a steady rain today but it's not bringing me down - it's a day to stay inside (after the dog walk) and get things done.

Thank you to the collector from Germany for your purchase. Much appreciated!

American Indian Horsehair Vase & Lemon: A First Meeting
Indian Horsehair Vase & Lemon; A First Meeting
Original oil on linen panel, 5 X 7", for sale. Contact at 262-893-4126.

This is an oil of a cherished American Indian made horsehair vase, painted with a fresh slice of lemon. This is the official documentation of their first meeting; an auspicious meeting in Sedona, Arizona where I spent a joyous week painting with fellow artists.

The kind of organic work I want to continue once settled in California.

African Shell and Rock, In Conversation

Just posted this:

African Shell and Rock, In Conversation
African Shell and Rock, In Conversation

To Fine Art America, where prints of it up to 43 X 60" can be purchased. Found this wonderful Sedona red rock outside the studio one day, the same day I found this smooth, pearlescent African shell in a mystical mysterious Sedona-type shop.

Moving to California on Saturday. No really, I am. To Danville, which is in the East Bay of San Francisco. I am so looking forward to painting new landscapes, people, horses and whatever else crosses my path. We're going to take two weeks to get there, seeing all kinds of friends along the way in Cleveland, Chicago, Montana and finally San Fran. Time for a good, good change.

BTW, the original is for sale. Email or give me a call at 262-893-4126 & we'll talk.
