"Liquid Blue Ridge Sunset" oil on board

This small but mighty, luminous and liquid oil painting is the ideal accent for a special area in a home. It was painted plein air - outside on a mountain above Asheville, NC, obviously as I watched the sun go down.

The painting has luscious layers of paint which can be seen in the enlargement. I was deeply inspired by the multiple layers of color that changed by the minute.

Original Oil "Appearently So" by C. Twomey, Auction!

original oil by C. Twomey
"Appearently So", original oil, 9 X 12", C. Twomey

Imagine this painting on YOUR wall and you'll want to place a bid HERE immediately! This is done from life, in the alla prima style, meaning it was completed in one sitting.

It's that time of year, and I found this trio of Bosc pears at the local grocery and had to paint them. I loved the spots, and the orangish glow throughout. This is an original oil, sized 12'W X 9"H. It is painted on archival linen from RayMar.

My painting process is to first layer in a warm color, like burnt sienna, onto white linen canvas. With that thin layer still wet, I wipe out the lightest areas, which later provides luminosity and usually is enough to define the shapes. Next, I apply the lightest and then darkest areas, which helps to establish the values and colors. Finally middle tones and more detailed areas are applied, always looking to harmonize the colors, refine the drawing and focus on the center of interest.

The painting has been varnished and will be carefully packaged by me. Please note that the painting is not framed.

BREAKING NEWS! I’ve just been notified that three of my paintings have been accepted for the highly competitive Randy Highbee 6X6 Squared exhibition in Los Angeles, CA. I'm very honored and excited to participate in this show featuring top nationwide artists.

About Me
I've been painting since 2008. Up until then, I honed my drawing and painting skills by practicing as a Certified Medical Illustrator. My blogs have been viewed by over 70,000 people worldwide, and I have over 2,000 followers on Facebook on Catherine Twomey Art.

I've just been notified that three of my paintings have been accepted for the highly competitive Randy Highbee 6X6 Squared exhibition in Los Angeles, CA. I'm very honored and excited to participate in this show featuring top nationwide artists.

My paintings are of a variety of subjects and sizes, ranging from 4 X5" up to 18 X 24" or greater. Each painting is carefully considered, sometimes in a series or in a similar approach to the subject matter. What's most important is that each painting is defined by the moment it is created. Whether it reflects a mood, or a moment, or something so beautiful it had to be painted; my soul goes into each stroke, color choice, composition and execution. Having studied Japanese Art for my Master's Thesis, I instinctively incorporate the Japanese respect for careful presentation and finishing, personally varnishing and packaging the work

My artwork has been featured at the world renowned TED (Technology, Education and Design) conference (TED MED in San Diego, on huge high definition screens throughout the exhibition center).

Notes
I accept Paypal payments. This painting is currently drying, so it won't be shipped for about three weeks. I personally varnish, wrap and ship the painting to ensure a successful delivery.

"Boat Dock 3" by Catherine Twomey, 6 X 6" oil

What a day for a daydream. Boat on dock; it's there every day.

Background:

Art is my life. From the first art project I can remember (making a Christmas Nativity scene in grade school that overshadowed the resident artist) art has always been what brings me the greatest satisfaction. Without art, I am not who I am.

I am now working full time as a fine artist, a dream that I've pursued for as long as I remember. Landscapes engage and challenge me, and I have a very soft spot for animals.

My artwork has been featured at the world renowned TED (Technology, Education and Design) conference (TED MED in San Diego, on huge high definition screens throughout the exhibition center). I recently won the nationally acclaimed ArtInPlace competition in Virginia which placed a 12' X 24' mural on aluminum of my work, now seen by thousands of commuters daily.

Two museums currently house my art: The William H. Benton Museum in Connecticut, and The LLoyd Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was a great honor to be asked to exhibit and I continue to add to their collections. Speaking of collections, my work is a part of hundreds of private collections worldwide.

As a passionate defender of Artist's Rights, I have traveled to Washington, DC to meet with Senators and members of Congress as they debated the Orphan Works law (an attempt to "orphan" copyrighted artwork by separating the creator from their work) which we defeated. In addition, as a member of the American Society of Illustrator's Partnership, I continue to work to secure reprographic royalty streams from the ongoing publication of artist's works.

In the summer, the oaks look bigger then ever, and this one is just plain massive. It has the most interesting branches and patina.

"Liquid Gladiolus 2.0" Auction, C. Twomey

I'm in a new home in Asheville, NC, and this spring and summer has been a revelation. There are things popping up in the garden I don't even know the name of. However, I recognized the gladiolus immediately, and have been painting them ever since. They're fading now as the coneflowers and daylillies emerge, but the reds lasted long enough for another go-around.

Please click HERE to take part in the auction. This original oil in 8 X 10" on archival linen board, ready to frame.

"Apple Tree Bonsai" Auction, C. Twomey

Original art by C. Twomey
"Apple Tree Bonsai" by C. Twomey

Click HERE to bid on this original painting by C. Twomey.

The organic symmetry of this gorgeous apple tree drew me in. I watched it daily while in Vermont; the apples hadn't arrived yet but it was in full summer bloom. The light filtered it softly as it dominated the landscape. Many animals depended upon it for shelter and food! It's oriental bend in the trunk was unique and set the tone for the rest of the limbs. 14" X 11" on archival paper.
