New Horse/Equine Prints Offered "The Horse's Walk Revealed"

Here is the third in the series of "Walk, Trot and Canter" that I recently completed while moving across the country from California to Vermont:

Equine print by Catherine Twomey
"The Horse's Walk Revealed", C. Twomey, Assorted sizes available

This shows a relaxed, balanced walk and an accurate skeleton, including correct positioning of the poll. It also includes the typical footfalls of a walk and has a symbolic reference to the evenness and symmetry of the gait.

For years I have been studying and drawing horses out of a love for their beauty, intelligence and grace. I recently completed a series of Walk, Trot and Canter, which are offered individually and combined. Having a strong art and medical background, my goal was to combine the aesthetics of the gait along with the most accurate interpretation of the skeleton I could find. It was very interesting to find errors in classical references, and correct them here. My great admiration for the style and clarity of Leonardo daVinci's work is reflected in my chosen style. I wanted to convey the lightness, collection and beauty of what it is to ride.

Please visit Here Saatchi to view all of the gaits: walk, trot, and canter. In addition, they are currently being offered right Here Fine Art America.

Thank you for your interest!

Animal medical illustration by Twomey
Bovine Digestive Tract by Twomey

Sunday. So many expectations, so little energy. Just to be clear: I'm chewing the cud while ruminating on the nature of existence. Today is a day for ruminating:
ru·mi·nate
ˈro͞oməˌnāt/
verb
gerund or present participle: ruminating
  1. 1.
    "we sat ruminating on the nature of existence"
    synonyms:think about, contemplate, consider, meditate on, muse on, mull over, ponder on/over, deliberate about/on, chew on, puzzle over;
    formalcogitate about
    "we ruminated on the nature of existence"
  2. 2.
    (of a ruminant) chew the cud.
    synonyms:think about, contemplate, consider, meditate on, muse on, mull over, ponder on/over, deliberate about/on, chew on, puzzle over;

Have a great weekend. Spring cannot come soon enough.

Award Winning: "Beaver Skull 1" Auction Ending

Auction ending today! Visit the auction for bidding on this fine specimen:

Oil painting by Catherine Twomey
Beaver Skull 1

Please visit http://catherinetwomeyart.blogspot.com/p/about.html to learn about my international awards and history.

Found a beautiful beaver skull in an antique shop in Cleveland, Ohio. I just had to paint it. There was life behind the empty eyes and frightening teeth. Even the cast shadow had a mystery to it that begged to be rendered.

It was interesting to be able to balance the skull so it was freestanding. Going to keep going with this anatomical work for a while; it's very satisfying.

The original is oil on 8" X 6" archival linen board. This is how the painting would look framed:

Beaver Skull 1

Oil painting by Twomey
Beaver Skull 1

Found this beautiful skull in an antique shop in Cleveland, Ohio. I loved that I could just hold it in my hand and turn it every which way.

It was such a pleasure to stare at it for hours, and I enjoy the menacing, almost alive look to it as I continue to paint. I don't feel it's finished yet, but I wanted it out there - released, ready to chew down a tree.

Don't know if I'm going to sell this yet. I'm definitely going to continue this series; it brought so much pleasure and intensity. There's a deer and horse skull waiting.
